The Research and Knowledge Exchange Department (RKE) at Goldsmiths is a central professional service department which facilitates the identification, development and submission of research and knowledge exchange bids for funding, as well as the management and associated reporting of the grants secured. RKE helps researchers to realise the potential impact of their research and provides strategic advice and practical support to senior management, academic departments and researchers on research and knowledge exchange policies.
We ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, concordats and codes of conduct, including those relevant to research ethics and integrity, and lead on the development, co-ordination and submission of the College’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) and Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) submissions.
We also work to shape and deliver training and other researcher development opportunities that complement support from HR and academic departments. This support, together with a programme of targeted internal awards, is available to researchers at all stages in their careers and is aimed at fostering a supportive research environment.
In addition to facilitating sponsored research activities, our department provides support for the development and delivery of partnerships between Goldsmiths researchers and external organisations in the private, public and third sectors, including contract research collaborations and consultancy projects.
We run a range of externally funded business engagement programmes aimed at supporting local growth and the development of new jobs, products and services, and look to engage non-academic audiences, such as policymakers, industry, local communities and the general public, in or with the academic research taking place at Goldsmiths.
We also deliver the College’s portfolio of unaccredited short courses and executive training.
The Pro-Warden for Research, Enterprise and Knowledge Exchange provides academic leadership in this area. The Department is under the strategic management of the Director of Research, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange, Vivienne Hurley, who reports to the Pro-Warden.
